War of destruction was formed  in the summer of 1981 in Århus Denmark. In the beginning we started as a 100% hobby band just for fun, we knew that the musical style should be hardcore mostly inspired by Discharge. After few weeks practicing we decided to release a tape.

In 82 we did  the 2 other tape releases  to get some of the money to financing our first record release. We released the tapes our self, they´re released in editions of 250 copies each tape.

The first years we played a lot of gigs all over Denmark, and on one occasion to a punk festival in “Husum” Germany in 82....we get  “our manhood” as a band, when we played for the first time for a public over 1000 people, in Copenhagen at “Nosferatu” festival. The people behind the festival, released a compilation lp and included absolutely without our permission the first track from our set March 82.At the start of the set we we´re very nervous, so lot of things went wrong on “Mens vi venter” (translated to english: Fear) and the bastards who compiled this record, released the worst track from our set that evening!!???.

in `83 we we´re on 2 occasions in a Real studio! Firstly to record  7 tracks, for a `7 inch E.p. released on our own label: “Spån Records”. We went to the studio the 6th of February 83, and recorded the tracks in one day, at the end of the day we did a quick mix, it was a good mix but very rough.
We waited 6 weeks to mix the record, it´s was far too long!! the mix we did at the end of March  was really bad, so bad that  “Arp studio” said ok, we pay a new mix, we did it in the beginning of May and used it for the record. At that time we have far too little studio experience, so the result wasn´t especially good...we should have released the Demo mix we made the same day we recorded the tracks!!. But we did´nt record the mix on reel to reel tape. At that time we want to be independent, so we didn´t search for a Record company to release the record, instead we started our own label: “Spån Records” to have the total control over our releases.

We made the `7 inch in Sweden, it was planned to be released in 800 copies, but different kinds of misunderstandings resulted in, that the edition is only in 442 copies.
The single was sold out after 6 month, we sold all records ourselves with big help from our friends in Denmark, Germany, England, USA, Sweden, Finland, and of course in Poland where we got a lot of fans at that time. in the summer of `83, we we´re for the second time in a professional recording studio here in Århus  called: “Feedback”, to record 4 tracks for a compilationlp with 8 other bands who was also related to the youth club  “Opgang 2”. It was here we got our rehearsal room.

The 4 tracks was recorded and mixed in only 3 hours, half the time for recording and the rest for mixing. The record was never released, but the 4 tracks are for the first time released and included on this Cd.

`83 and `84 was absolutely our busiest years as a band, we played (again nearly) all over Denmark and on 2 different occasions in Germany, the second time was for a 6 days tour in Hamburg,  Hannover, Konstanz, Osnabrück and Bielefeld, we did also a gig at a psychiatric hospital, but we have the f.......luck to get out again. At that time and the forthcoming years, we were the absolute No.1 “Hardcore” band in Denmark, we “have found” the W.of d. tune!! maybe it´s because Key the Bass player and i also made all the tracks for “Our” other band: Crap, who started as a band in 1980 as a “Pisspunk” band, but after we started War of destruction, crap went to a totally different direction, getting more experimental with weird syncopated rhythms.

In `84 we visited twice our “usual” studio: Arp/ Århus, the first time in the beginning of the year, to record 3 tracks for 2 different Danish compilation records: “Noget på Dansk” and “Complications”, this time with Charlie “Goodtime” (Den guitar ska´lyde som en pik!), as engineer. In autumn  `84 we occupied Arp again, for the recording of our minilp: De dødes hvisken (whispers of the dead), again with Freddie Albrectsen as “chief technician”. We record the minilp in 2 days, almost half of the time was used to record and arrange: Birthday, Freddie was guest star on this track with 1 of the 3 guitar´s + Keyboards and crazy ideas, he´s also the    producer on the track. We mixed the record 2 weeks later, after my opinion the sound is too polished and there´s not punch and bass enough in the mix! But it´s ok, especially on the reel to reel tape, the tape sounds far much better than the record. We made the record in Germany (1000 copies), and released it again on our own label “Spån Records”, it was the label´s bankerot!! we was far “too naive” and trusted too many of the people who help us to distribute the records, lots of them didn´t pay us for the records, so a big "fuck off" to you out there!!!

We released the record in April `85, and did again a lot of gigs this year. In March `86 it was time to visit Arp again, for the recording of 3 tracks to the Danish/ German compilation lp: “Sauerkraut+Smørrebrød”, we booked 2 days.. again with Freddie as the technician on the recordings, we knew that 2 whole days was to long long time to record and and mix the 3 tracks, so 6 more tracks were recorded, we use most of our energy to finish the  tracks for the compilation lp, afterward we mixed the 6 other tracks in 4-5 hours. The new tracks was different from our older tracks, we started to change the musical structure. This was the last month with Steen on drums, he left the band after Monody festival `86.

Afterward it was time to our 5´th punk festival here in Århus, with 4-6 other members from “opgang 2” we arranged Monody festival festival from `81 to `87. It was a 2 day festival with 20-25 Danish bands and few German bands, 20 hours with mostly punk and hardcore bands. It was arranged at a place called “Huset” with a public capacity to only 400 people, the festival was always “Full house” and visited by people from all over Denmark/ Germany/ Norway and Sweden. The festival ended in 1987 (when war of destruction were on the scene) with big troubles outside “Huset”, it ended up in total chaos!! with lots of punks and big aggressive police forces, the police “started” a regular street fight between police and punks!! It ended up with closing of the festival, and lots of punx get arrested. And that was the sad end of Monody festival `87!!.

We started up with the new drummer (Dimse) in that summer of `86, and our noise changes radically, because Dimse´s drummingstyle was totally different from earlier W.OF D., now with weird breaks and frenetic tunes also with a “Jazzy touch” and even more faster than ever. We did our debut with the new line up at “Ungdomshuset” Copenhagen Nov. `86, where we play too fast and spoiled some of the tracks because of the insane tempo. In February `87 we did one of our best concerts ever at “Huset” Århus, 7 tracks from that gig is included on our new “Retrorelease : "A touch of Scandinavia", it´s a vinyl lp with 21 unreleased track´s, 7 studio tracks and 14 live tracks from `83 to `88. It´s released on: “Master mind records” and in a limited edition of  500 copies. And a special thanks to our 5´th member when we did our livegigs: Jens “Hvid lyd” Wellendorph, who did his wizard live sound for us for 6-7 years, and did his absolute best every time, for very few money!! Fanx Jens.

We spend the last 3 years as a band in the rehearsal room making weird “trash” noise, we did only 10 to 15 gigs with our last lineup!!! The punk have been dead for years in Denmark!    lots of plans were made for touring in different countries like Holland, Norway, England, Poland and USA, but it all ended up in nothing because of very bad economy, so nothing happened.

One of our last gigs was in Fredericia (Denmark) 88/ 89?? as a support band for the Canadian band: “No means no”, we did again one of our Supergigs, were very sharp this evening and played with a Clinical precision, afterward Nomeansno couldn´t  understand why we were the support band for them. I  get a linerecording on cassette of this gig 6 month ago from a guy in Copenhagen,  and i was very surpriced when i hear this recording...i haven´t “heard” this gig ever, oooohhhhh it´s great!!!!. Most of this recording will be released on vinyl, in the beginning of 2002, again on: Master mind records !!! The record will also include tracks from 2 other gigs, one from `86 and 1 from `87+ A bonus single including: The Tjekkian misses, the worst work from Gz in Tjekkia for our lp: “A touch of Scandinavia”, it sounds so horrible on the lp that we/ i need!! to reissue the 3 tracks from the `87 and `88 recordings at: “Huset”.

In the time we existed as a band we did around 150 gigs, and did it with bands like: GBH, Destructors, Birthday party, Frites modern, Rattus (3 times), Raw power and Danish bands like Razor blades, City x, Electric deads and many more.

We split up as a band in the beginning of `89.

A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE BAND DATED 1987 :

WAR OF DESTRUCTION HISTORY  `87.

In the summer 81, we started playing together, just for the fun of it!!. seriously (too good to be true). After a couple of rehearsals we decided to release a tape, believing ourself easily able to make a C-20. Anyway, after having recorded our repetoire of 6  numbers we had to realize that they only lasted for 10 minutes, so we had to come up with something more. 10 further minutes of noise where constructed, in the shape of 2 extremely? experimental tracks.
Since then 2 more tapes has been released, called: “WOFD” and “FDI”
+ several contributions to compilations on records and tapes, here and

In 1983 we went to a studio ( always a studio here in Århus called Arp, when we need a professional studio for record releases) and recorded 7 tracks to a selffinanced Ep, and released it on our own label: Spån records,

Lots of people would surely not hesitate to call the W.OF D spirit and “Style” hardcore, but we ourself feel that hardcore today has become more and more fashion inflated by fancy businessmen manufacturing t-shirts, studded armband  etc. bearing names of bands with supposedly “commercial potential”, and thus several bands have been hostages of a ridiculous uniform fashion, which we in no way wan´t to be connected with. So you may eventually call our music/ controlled noise: Energetic, waltzing merrygoround

Politics the way we see it, is a worldwide lunacy involving billions of people all over the world, all claiming to be living in “free democratic” countries where everybody  has a word or two to say. We know of course, that this is a lie!...The right (commercial) wing of opinions always “wins” the game. This also indicates that people care generally less a and less about anything but them selves and their crummy piece of “democratic power”, which in term has come to mean:”the majority´s darwinistic right”....This has nothing to do with democracy as we learned it!. Words and ideals have lost their values.

From where we get our inspiration? is impossible to say!, the bandmembers taste of music is very diverse....but we all agree on the way we want W.OF D.

Our lyrics are mainly about the darker sides of life and society, unjustice and

A new period started in autumn 86, when we started playing with a new drummer, called: Dimse...this has of course changed the music a bit...making it faster, much more spacy and with more breaks and new dimensions to look

Here in the autumn of `87 we hope that someone will make a new record with us!. The earlier economic adventures has left the band broke, lots of different

We also hope to be able to tour Norway as well as the rest of Europe in 88,

W.OF D. line up `86-90.: Key: bass, Hans: vocals, Donny: guitar, Dimse: drums.
